MY STORY

Jae LeNoir, writing under the pseudonym Jae Noirel, is a poet, essayist, novelist, filmmaker, and street philosopher from Berkeley, California. A justice-impacted individual and prison reform advocate, his work is shaped by lived experience and a commitment to truth, identity, and transformation. His first book, Prison Poetry: Peace of Mind for a Tortured Soul, was published in 2017 shortly after his release from incarceration. His second book, an urban novel entitled D-Boys Blues: A Gritty Tale of Loyalty and Betrayal, was also published in 2017 and has become a hood classic.
His articles have appeared in The Laney Tower, the student newspaper at Laney College. After his release, Jae chose a new path and went on to earn his Associate of Arts degree in Graphic Design from Laney College in Oakland, California. He founded Hub Design Studios in 2013, providing graphic design services to a range of clients, from non-profits to local Bay Area artists. He is also the creative director and co-founder of Know Thyself Institute and chief designer of the Amrcn Grxxd clothing line.
Jae is currently a cinema major at San Francisco State University, where he is expanding his work into filmmaking with a focus on documentary storytelling, archival media, and narratives centered on identity, history, and self-discovery.
